Tiebreakers in Round-Robin?
Hi everyone! New player here (within the last month) and I've been having some frustrations understanding head-to-head tiebreakers in round-robin situations.
This morning, I experienced another situation where me and another team finished tied in the "Early Bronze" tournament round-robin with 3 wins a piece (another team had 4 wins to win our "pool"). Looking at our records - we were both 3-3 in pool play. We both went 1-1 against the top team in the pool, 1-1 against each other, and 1-1 against the last place team in the pool. Looking at score of games, I had a higher run differential across all games (+11 for me; -1 for the other team), higher total runs scored (35 for me, 29 for the other team), lower runs given up (24 for me, 30 for the other team). We also had a 0 run differential in our head-to-head matchup (each winning their corresponding game by 1 run). Despite all of this, the other team somehow moved on to the next round, and I was knocked out of the tournament. I cannot for the life of my figure out why, so I'm hoping someone can shed some light for me. Thank you in advance! |
In a double round robin, the tiebreakers would go:
-head to head -run differential in head to head games -result of the last game between the tied clubs |
Thank you for the quick reply, Matt!
The last head-to-head result appears to be where I lost. On that note, any context as to why the last head-to-head is given preference? Seems like it would de-prioritize the overall team performance through pool play and overly emphasize one good/bad game? Thanks again, and have a great day! |
