A couple of questions about "Manager Only" mode
I'm trying this mode out for the first time:
1) If the owner expects me to reach the playoffs and the AI GM doesn't make any player moves, am I still going to get fired even if the team over-performs? 2) is there any way to get a notice when the AI GM moves someone from the reserve roster to the active roster (something I can't control)? This one is really annoying because I'll suddenly find out that my reserve infielder has been demoted and replaced with someone else so I need to update my depth charts which still show the old guy. Also, it seems that if you want to start a "Manager Only" game with spring training in your first season, you have to set it to "Manager & GM" or else Spring Training is skipped. 3) Also, why are players asking me to make a donation for the team? I'm just the manager. 4) Another one: If I set a player to "Untouchable" on the trade menu (I can do that for some reason), will it prevent the GM from trading away the player? |
update on this... the AI GM definitely respects the "Untouchable" and "On the Block" notifications which has been a really cool way to subtly guide the development of the team without actively trading with the other AI GMs and abusing that feature.
My head canon is, as the manager, I'm telling the GM "this guy is a keeper...DO NOT TRADE", or "this guy is expendable, he won't be missed" and then he responds well to that without me having access to the trade AI (and the abuses that entails). |

I put the trade volume on "Constantly" just to improve the chances of cycling out players I don't want for players I might potentially want. Trade activity started slowing down in the 2nd and 3rd seasons, presumably because I started marking more players as "Untouchable". Also, my AI GM has never made a trade on the Trading Deadline day despite me seeing through the new interface many trades proposed. I even set the number of cycles on the deadline to the maximum 20. I wonder if that is a bug or just random bad luck (trust me, I would have jumped at some of those trades if I were GM). |
