Why do recalculated player ratings revert back?

So i'm trying to import a historical player and use the editor to change the players ratings. I can, however after i do so the players ratings drop back down to what they were (roughly) before the edit.....I've tried running a full Re-Scouting in Game settings right after and tried cloning the player to see if that resolved it.....Nope. Please help!!! how to do i make the changes stick?

So here's an example:

I import player X (20yrs old) into modern day. I do a "Recalc ratings based on stats" and i see the ratings in Player X change as expected......i then begin simming a year or 2 and see the stats that jumped up severely revert back to their former level....say player X had a power rating of 20/100. After the recalc it's at 90. After 2yrs or less its reverted back down to 40, and continues to drop. This happens every single time i do a sim. I'm using the "Use the OOTP engine" setting in my sim.

HELP!!!! how do you get the rating changes to stick?

Are you playing a historical game or starting with the newest MLB rosters and moving forward? When you import the historical player, what are his ratings and potential ratings? If you're not playing a historical game and your player ratings are not being recalculated based on real-life stats, then it's possible that the development engine is simply lowering the player's ratings randomly, or it's lowering them because his potential ratings are low. I suspect that there might be something unusual in your settings, in how you're importing or editing the player, or in his potential ratings.

Just to double-check. Is the "Recalc player ratings based on real stats after each year" on the Historical settings page checked?

Can you give us a specific example? Trying to understand why you are going through the process of editing the player's current ratings.

So i'm trying to import Dan Brouthers into like 2001 historical sim and raising his power ratings so he's like 80-90 power. I do that and it looks fine but after running 10 sims every single time he immediately starts dropping drastically in his rating. When i recalc he's like at an 80 and within a few years all the way back down to like 20-40 ish

Did you edit the player potential ratings along with the current ratings? If the game sees his current ratings well above the potentials, it's possible the dev engine will go and drop his current ratings to match.

I did not edit his current ratings. But should i need to? I want him to grow into his potential ratings. Is that not possible? I see your a developer so i trust what your saying but if i have to edit his current ratings to be the same or close to the potential i don't really see the point of having a potential.

BTW i love this game and I'm a long time player I appreciate you responding and thanks for all the hard work. I'm not sure what i would do working from home if I didn't have OOTP.....probably actually more work

I think the question was the opposite, if you accidentally edited his *current* power to be 80-90 but left his *potential* alone.

Exactly. This is what I suspect has happened. Johnbenchley needs to go into the player editor, find all the detailed potential ratings for the player, and edit them so they are at least as high as his current ratings for contact, gap, power, eye, avoid Ks, etc. Otherwise, the development engine is going to assume that his future ratings should drop, and it will eventually adjust them in that direction, and possibly dramatically.
