I would like to play as GM but can I trust the AI to manage my team effectivly or is a human manager the only way to go

You should be fine. The AI does a much better job as a manager than it does a GM. The GM role is a lot more complicated. What I’m saying is the advantage of a human vs AI in this game in far less noticeable as manager than GM. I don’t see a computer manager make many glaring mistakes with lineups, it’s fairly solid.
