Traded for a player's rights but unable to sign him?
 

Hello everyone,

I am playing as the expansion Lightning and am the 94 offseason. I acquired Calle Johansson through trade but I am unable to sign him to a contract? I am only given the option to match an offer sheet. What is also weird is that it says that he is signed to an extension. Prior to acquiring his rights, I do remember trying to submit an offer sheet but I decided not to (compensation).

I think Washington (?) may have tried to extend his contract, you completed the trade while that negotiation was in process, for some reason (possibly your discontinued attempt at an offer sheet) the game didn't end that existing negotiation as it should've, leaving them in a position where they were effectively offer-sheeting what's now your player. But that doesn't explain why it's starting a year later. I'll see if I can replicate that in a test, but for now the easiest fix is probably just turning commissioner mode on, then editing the player contract so it starts in the correct year.
