ARTHUR DOUGLAS LW

Hometown - Cape Town, South Africa

68(36)-27-14; 11 NC

Douglas fought in his native South Africa through 1908 winning and defending the South African Featherweight Title six times before moving his base of operation to Australia where he fought for the bulk of his career. Douglas won the Australian Lightweight Title, defending three times before dropping a 20 round decision to Hughie Mehegan. Although he fought for the Aussie Belt several more times, he was unable to regain it. In 1912, he won the lesser Queensland Lightweight belt which he defended once. During his stint in Australia, Douglas defeated Hock Keys, George Johns, Frank Thorn and Monty Andrews. He lost to Bob Whitelaw, Thorn, Ray Bronson, Johnny Summers and Hughie Mehegan. His record in Australia was a respectable 41-12-9; 10NC. In 1920, Douglas went back to South Africa and posted a 2-2-1 record against unimpressive competition prior to his retirement from the ring.
