Gill faced stiff competition in his 22 bout career, it is impressive that he was only stopped once. Gill scored decision wins over Jimmy Darcy and Soldier Bartfied and KO'd Joe Borrell. He lost decisions to Bert Colima, Billy Alger, Jimmy Slattery, Paul Berlenbach, Micky Walker and Jack Britton. Johnny also was TKO'd by Rene DeVos and fought a no decision bout with Walker.
