Jacobs defeated Carl Crook in a 10 round non-title bout. He won the British Junior Lightweight Title with a 12 round decision over John Doherty in 1990 but lost the title that same year to Hugh Forde. He also fought for the British Lightweight and WBO Junior Lightweight Titles in losing efforts to Steve Boyle and Kamel Bou Ali. He had a bit of a weak chin, losing three bouts to stoppage as he faced better opponents.
