ARCHIE KEMP LW (1947-1949)
Hometown - Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia
5(1)-3-3
Kemp had a somewhat promising career going at 5-2-3 including draws with Frank Flannery and Roy Treasure when he met Jack Hassen in Sydney for the vacant Australian Lightweight title. Kemp was ahead through eight rounds, but Hassen began to control in the ninth and tenth. Midway through the eleventh, Hassen began to hit at will, he sensed that Kemp was in serious trouble and paused to look at the referee. The Official motioned for the bout continue, allowing Hassen to deliver the blows that gave him the title by knockout and caused Kemp's death the next morning due to cerebral bleeding. The match effectively ended both fighters' careers as Hassen never seemed to recover from the traumatic event.
