Tunney Hunsaker Opponents
Starting an off shoot of my Manfred Ackers projects, I'm going to work through the careers of the 15 opponents discussed in the book Facing Ali rating the fighters that we've not yet seen introduced by anyone. I decided to do this in this thread being most of the fighters looked at are going to be in the LHW/HW class. We'll see.
First we'll be looking at Tunney Hunsaker's career. I got starting thinking about this project when I got to rereading Facing Ali.
First up...
Joe Moran - USA Rating 1
Light Heavyweight 1951-58
14 wins / 9 losses / 0 draws / 11 KO
Hometown: San Antonio, TX
Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto
Tunney Hunsaker's first professional opponent in the ring. Moran, a pretty good puncher KO'd Hunsaker in the first round of thier bout in October 1951. That was part of 11 consecutive victories, 10 by KO for Moran after he lost his first bout by KO in the 1st round.
There was only one other opponent of any note in Moran's career and that was LHW Alvin Williams, whom Moran lost a 12 round decision to in November 1953. Moran's career was a real mix of opponents ranging from middleweight up to heavyweight. His last career opponent was a lightwight! That being Dan Toriani who was trained by Angelo Dundee who fought a breif, 2 year career that ended with a 12-0-2,11KO record. Toriani KO'd Moran in the 2nd round in October 1958 ending Moran's career.
