Jimmy started his pro career out going 14-0-1 (7). In his 16th pro fight he met Willie Pep and suffered his first defeat as a pro losing in 10 rounds on points. Jimmy's amateur record was 22-2-0 fighting for the McGuire Air Force Boxing Team in 1956. Jimmy was the 118 pound Northeast Air Force Champion and the 118 pound All-Air Force World Wide Champion. Jimmy also was the 1956 National AAU Tournament Quarter-Finalist.
