Delaney fought against some stiff competition and was never stopped in 71 bouts. Some of his victories include wins over Young Bob Fitzsimmons (2 X's), Frank Farmer, Ray Pelkey and Martin Burke. Some of his losses were to Harry Greb 3 times, Gene Tunney 2 times, Johnny Risko, Otto von Porat and Maxie Rosenbloom. Delaney lost once and had a draw with Tommy Loughran.
Delaney died at the age of 24 on March 4,1927 as a result of blood poisoning from an injury to his elbow he suffered in a fight with Maxie Rosenbloom on 1927-02-11. He did not realize the extent of the injury until after he fought Benny Ross 10 days after the Rosenbloom fight.
