Sammy Adragna WW 1939-1948
Overall rating = 7
Hometown: Carnegie, PA
50-11-1 (KOs 7)

Sammy had about 95 amateur bouts before turning pro at the age of 20. His career was interrupted by World War II. While serving in the Army in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Sardinia, southern France and Germany, Sammy found himself in the Allied Forces boxing tournament 147 pound finals against the heftier Marcel Cerdan (MW Champion from France). Although Adragna lost to Cerdan, people said that Cerdan had to take two months off after fighting Adragna due to the beating he took to the body. In 1947, Sammy faced top challenger Chuck Taylor in a bout that supposedly would send the winner into a welterweight championship match with Sugar Ray Robinson. Adragna beat Taylor on decision, but Taylor was awarded the chance to fight Robinson. Taylor lost that title fight.

Check spelling on photo ( Adranga ) box rec has it Adragna
