Amoroso won 25 of his first 30 bouts with wins over Nat Litfin, Al Guido, Joey Peralta, Al Mobley and Frankie Leta. The losses began to pile up as he continued to face better competition such as Cleo Shans, Chester Rico and Freddie Russo. He came back after a five year lay-off in 1953 to face Bobby Courchesne only to suffer a second round KO.
