PABLO BAEZ - JMW (1977-1988) Overall Rating = 4
Hometown - Los Angeles, California
Born - Dominican Republic
16(15)-16-2
Baez (with a 10-9-2 record at the time) was a questionable choice for Thomas Hearns' third WBA welterweight defense in 1980. He was stopped by Hearns in the fourth round. Baez' three fights leading up to the Hearns fight were a loss to Fijian Sakaraia Ve, a win over Jose Palacios and a draw with Rudy Barro which makes that fight look much more like a tune-up for Hearns prior to his fight with Leonard than a true title fight. Baez also lost to Mauricio Bravo, Donald Curry, Mark Breland and he stopped Siaosi George Tanoa in the tenth. He was stopped four times but his chin may not have been all that bad when you consider that outside of the Hearns fight, the other three stoppage losses came in his last four bouts and against guys with names like Breland and Curry.
