With a 7-2-1 record (the 2 losses 10 round decisions to Mauro Mina), in November 1959 Diaz knocked out Guillermo Dutschmann in the 3rd round to take the Argentine LHW Title that had been vacated by Atilio Caraune's retirement. Diaz successfully defended the title in April 1960 with a 12 round UD against Jose Angel Manzur. After 3 more wins in the LHW division against Hugo Medina, Manzur and Jerry Luedee, Diaz weighted up to heavyweight for the last half of his career. It started out well with an 8th round TKO of Clarence Floyd, but then 3 straight losses in 1961 followed against Von Clay, Lino Rendon and Tony Hughes.
Diaz mounted a short comeback in 1962 with a 10th round TKO victory over Tony Alongi who was undefeated at the time at 28-0-0, a 10 round decision over Alonzo Johnson and a 4th round TKO over Dave Rent. That brought in September and December 1962 probably two of Diaz's three toughest fights of his career when he lost a 12 round split decision to Willie Pastrano and then lost a 10 round decision to Gregorio Peralta. After 3 wins against modest competition including a 5th round TKO of Levi Forte, Diaz finished his career in June 1965 when he was stopped in the 4th round by Oscar Bonavena.
