This is a definite bug and I have experienced the same. I'll give a specific example of how it happened to me.
My DH hit a double, but was injured on the play. I had to replace him with a PR. At the end of the inning, it automatically brought me to my roster screen to replace him. Unfortunately I had the same '-'. I tried replacing him with another player and pitcher and even tried to move my current pitcher into the DH slot. No such luck. I tried clicking on all of the other tabs and nothing worked.
On another note, I'm really enjoying the game guys. It is quite a learning curve, but I'm getting there.
