Why did he become a free agent on 9/11? Is that when your season ends? If the AI signed a player between the end of the season and the start of free agency, they shouldn't have to foot any of that bill, since team's pay a prorated amount if they sign a player midseason (see Roger Clemens this year). If they signed him after the season was over, they wouldn't have played any games and therefore shouldn't have owed him any money. There's really no way to check whether he actually got paid but just for kicks I tested out signing a player after games ended and I wasn't charged any additional money. This should be able to be fixed but in the meantime you can just write it off as a cosmetic bug (though it does suck to have that team in his history when he never played a game for them).
