Yes, they signed him to an $11M contract, but if you're using a normal MLB setup, they'd only have him for about the final month of the season, possibly less (depending on when your season actually ends). The way MLB contracts work is that the amount is prorated for the number of games they're actually with the team. Take Roger Clemens signing with the Astros this season. His contract is actually over $20M but since he's signing about 1/3 of the way into the season, he's only going to end up taking home $12M and change. An $11M contract over one month is actually going to be worth less than $2M. In the Front Office page, there's an entry for "Player Expenses So Far" and that updates every game by paying every player one game's worth of their salary. Compare that to the actual Payroll figure and they will almost always be different, sometimes greatly so (as would likely be the case here, with a discrepancy of some $9M).
