I agree with this. As GM you should be able to call up the manager and say this guy has a big future, but we have too many guys at his position, see if he can play this... and he should. You should have more control than you apparently do... but at the same time you as GM shouldn't be the end all be all of what the manager does in the minors, he should be trying to win games and playing who he feels should be playing. But as I said, as GM you should be able to tell them that this 19 year old that doesn't look so hot should be playing a whole lot more, and he should listen to that.
With that being said, there may be a work around. I say may because I'm not completely certain yet.
Go into commish mode, go to the options of your affiliates and click the AI makes no roster changes box. Then you can leave commish, and you should have full control of the lineup/depth chart/pitching roster.
In my limited play since I did that I think it's a valid work around. I constantly told my A ball club to play this guy in LF, it kept switching the depth charts to him playing 3B (he's not all that good at 3B, and I have 4 good 3B in higher levels of my minors and a very good young 3B on my big league club, no way is this kid gonna come up as a 3B). Since I've changed it, he has stayed in LF.
If you're fired, and accept that, you'll have to be sure to go back in and uncheck those boxes... or cripple the AI that takes over that team though.
