Hicks' career was one of streaks. He started out with a bad one, going 2-8-0. Four of the losses were to Everett Copeland, Oscar Bonavena and James J. Woody who were all fighting their prod debuts with Hicks, and to Lee Carr who was fighting for only the 3rd time. Then from July 1964 through June 1966 he fought rather sporadically, but he did win 5 of his 6 bouts. One win was against Tommy Fields. He lost for a second time to James Woody.
From Sept 1966 through the remainder of his career he lost 3 in a row, won 4 out of 5 and then finished loosing his last 7 career bouts. His 4 wins were against Eddie Vick, Dave Russell, Stamford Bulla and Dylvester Dullaire. Losses mounted up against Bob Stallings, Bulla, Jerry Tomasetti, Hal Carroll twice, Angel Oquendo, Johnny Griffin, Jose Luis Garcia, Pedro Agosto, Bob Mashburn, and Jimmy Young.

Howard started out with 6 straight wins in 1967 over Jim Hall, Eddie Roosevelt Jr., Al Brooks, Vic Brown, Billy Monroe and Frank Bullard. He followed that starting out 1968 with a 3rd round KO of Mac Harrison in Feb before loosing his first bout, a 6 round decision to Donnie Ray Sherman a week after his victory over Harrison. He followed that with 2 more wins in 1968 over Gene Idelette and Fred Askew before he was stopped int he 6th round by Al Jones in August of 68. Howard then did not fight until April 1970 loosing 4 more fights through early 1971 to Bert Perry twice, Wendell Newton and Bob Mashburn before hanging it up.
