thepbl - All of the changes Arod23 and I made for our DB were specifically designed for improved historical simulating with OOTP. In the readme of our DB there are details about the various changes we made and why we made them.

If you use the raw Lahman DB for instance, Sandy Kofax will import as a Middle reliever with low endurance as a rookie because that's how he was used as a rookie in 1955. In our DB he will import as a SP as a rookie because that's how he was primarily used over the course of his career. He will also debut in his first full season (1957) instead of 1955 in our DB. We made many subtle changes like this so that players with small samples of AB or IP do not receive misrepresented ratings as rookies in OOTP.

Another example would be the modifications we made to stolen baes and caught stealing. In the early 1900's caught stealing was nor tracked. So all that OOTP sees in the DB for Ty Cobb in say 1911 is 83 stolen bases and 0 caught stealing...this leads to misrepresented ratings. We went in and changed these things using the best data we could to estimate the missing caught stealing data so that players have more realistic ratings.
