I'm guessing Detroit Tigers Home uniform.
He played with the Tigers in 1933. The Tigers home cap had a red "D". It's possible that the red "D" didn't show up against the dark blue cap in the black & white picture.
I've seen some pictures of Pittsburgh Pirates players where the maroon "P" was difficult to see against the blue cap.
