Just how many leagues, teams, and players do you have in your universe, Mike? Which version of Windows are you using and how much RAM do you have?

I have a Fictional Baseball League with the same as MLB league---30 teams but with different city names. Each team in my league has 5 minor league teams (AAA, AA, A, short season, and rookie league). I have 7 feeder teams for the amateur draft--4 High school leagues and 3 College leagues. Is this too much? The free agent list is about 2400 players (too much?). How can I lower this if this is the problem? When I was playing OOTP 2007 the crash rarely happened but it started to happen about the time when OOTP 8 was released. I thought If I went to OOTP8 problem would be solved so Im thinking it has something to do with my overall league as a whole.
Im running Windows XP service pack 2. I have 2GB ddr2-675 ram and a E6300 Intel Core2duo processor.
When I go to the dat files in my saved league files this is what i see: my saved leave is called: mygame.lg...clicking on this folder gives me: ballcaps, import_export, jerseys, messages, news, page_links, settings, and temp as folders and then coaches, ethnicities, faces, human_managers, messages, names, nations2, offers , options, parks, players, retired, scouting, teams, trades, weather, world as DAT files. They are not folder symbols. The look like windows medial player symbols but with blue triangles. i think the symbols are creative media source (my sound card is soundblaster xfi-xm).If i click on faces my creative media scource will pop up and say unable to read to recognize the format of this file.
