Tycobbian Baseball Union

TBU West Division

Howe Too Tough for Lynx
Ace Howe of Arlon was razor-sharp today in the 3-1 victory at Capitol Park Stadium in La Claire. The Champs big righthander was stingy with the hits and runs, allowing only 5 hits and one run for his first win of the season. Howe whiffed 8 Lynx and walked only two in a route-going performance. He outpitched Nickie
Baumgartner (1-2), who also had a nice outing, permitting 8 hits and 3 runs in 8 innings with 4 Ks and only one base on balls. CF Jerry Keller swatted 3 hits for Arlon and 2B Karl Detwiler contributed a pair.

The La Claire Lynx (10-4) still are on top in the TBU West Division by two games over the Fairfax Frogs (8-6), while the Arlon Champions (7-7) are in a third-place tie with the Bayview Vikings (7-7).

Bucs Gross Out Frogs 5-2
Bay St. Clair southpaw Norm Gross (2-2) was in good form as whipped second place Fairfax 5-2. Gross sent 10 Frogs down via the strikeout, while allowing only 6 hits and 2 walks in an impressive effort. A 5-run fifth highlighted the game at Shoreline Park. 3B Bubba Tate and 1B Maury Smith had 2 RBIs each and CF Skeeter Hall got the other one. LF Gator Davis drove in both of the Frogs runs. The losing pitcher was starter Jimmy Dalton (1-1), who had a dismal day and was tagged for 5 runs and 7 hits in his 5+ innings,

In spite of the victory, Bay St. Clair (5-9) is still last in the TBU West, while Fairfax (8-6) is the number two club, two games behind first place La Claire.

Vikings Wells Tames Blue Lake
The Bayview Vikings got the best of the Blue Lake Blue Sox 4-1 today at Harbor Stadium and the primary reason was righthander Frank Wells. The crafty righthander picked up his 3rd successive win by holding the Blue Sox to 6 hits and one run over 8 innings. He ran out of gas and needed Fred Snow's help in the ninth to wrap up the contest. The Viks were paced by RF Gerry Mason, who went 3-for-3 and banged in a pair of runs. SS Shorty Richards also aided the cause with his first roundtripper of the season. Big 6-5 Bennie West (2-2) stood out for Blue Lake as he checked Bayview on 2 runs and 7 hits over seven frames with one walk and 5 Ks.

The Vikings have now taken three in a row in the series. Bayview (7-7) is tied for the third spot in the TBU West with the Arlon Champions. The Buccaneers (5-9) are last in the division.
