Ruthlandian Union - South Division

Marston Edges Waleska 3-2 in 10 Innings
In a tight ten-inning tussle in Waleska, the visiting Marston Nine edged the Westerners 3-2. Marston broke up a 1-1 tie with two runs in the top of the tenth, when center fielder Tommy Reinhold (.307) singled with one out, then scored on a double by left fielder Ronnie Horn (.291). Third baseman Roland Thomas (.335) drove in the eventual winning run with a single. Waleska battled gamely in the bottom of the tenth, plating one run and getting the tying run on third, before Milt Wilson could retire the side. He got third baseman Yoshihide Nishida (.256) to ground out to short to end the game. Horn drove in two of the Nine's runs, while catcher Jody Hill (.188) homered for the Westerners. Both starters pitched outstanding games with Paul Azard (5-2 2.73) holding Waleska to three hits in seven innings and Rusty Kraft (3-5 4.31) stopping Marston on four hits over eight innnings. Wilson (0-2 3.68) was credited with his 4th save, but really was tested in the last inning, giving up one run, two hits and a walk. In a surprising move, manager Johnny Walters had outfielder Sam Dixon (1-0 0.00) pitch to one batter in the ninth. He got them out of a bases-loaded situation and got the win. Dixon has at times pitched in his career, but never in the IPA. Buddy Kennedy (1-4 4.30) suffered the loss as he surrendered two runs and three hits in his only inning.

This was the only single game on the schedule today. Marston (31-20) has won four straight and is riding high atop the RU South Division. Waleska has dropped the last three games and are fifth in the division, 7.5 games out.

Mike McCluskey's (.285) RBI single made it 3-1 in favor of the Diamonds. Keith Olsen's (.323) sac fly added another run in the fifth.
