Vargas Honored as RU Batter of the Month
Jorge Vargas, Sugar Valley's third baseman, won the Ruthlandian Union Batter of the Month Award for June. To take the honor he put up some standout stats including a .368 average, 12 home runs and 35 RBIs. The Islandian Baseball Writers Association will present his trophy at the next home game for the Rattlers. Posting a .350 batting average to date, Vargas has 19 home runs and 57 RBIs.
Pace Selected June's #1 Hurler in Ruthlandian Union
Nick Pace of the Marston Nine has been selected as the Ruthlandian Union's Hurler of the Month. Pace racked up a 6-1 mark during June, finishing up with an outstanding 1.00 ERA in 7 starts. He pitched 63 innings and fanned 56 batters. For the season Pace is 11-6 with a 2.63 ERA, 3 shutouts and 10 complete games in 19 starts.
McCluskey Heads RU Rookie Class
It was an excellent month for Marty McCluskey. He really swung into action! The first baseman for the Claxton Diamonds was named June's best newcomer in the Ruthlandian Union. He captured the honor by hitting .385 with 45 hits, 4 home runs, 21 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
In 69 games this year McCluskey has posted a .311 average and put up these numbers: 7 home runs, 37 RBIs and 34 runs scored.
