I just finished a game that had a few typos/problems (which has been very rare, overall). At one point early in the game I had made a player substitution. Later on when the player came up to bat, the game substituted his name for "Fang". Also for the 1st time I saw the word "played" spelled wrong; it was something like "pldyed"

99% sure that "Fang" is the player's nickname. Check the guy's player page to make sure. I was confused by it myself when I started playing OOTP.
