South Fork and Elnora Swap Players
GM Finley Charles of the South Fork Stallions stunned the ballclub when he traded his clean-up hitter Paul Giles to Elnora for outfielder Art Atkins and infielder Rick Tsoukalis.
Charles told BNN, "We had a chance to improve our defense at two positions with Tsoukalis at second base and Atkins in right field. We got two .300 hitters and two fine glove men and gave up a slugger in Giles. These two additions will make our excellent pitching staff just a little bit better."
George Costanza, the All-Stars general manager, was excited to get a hitter of Giles' caliber. "We gave up a good utility player and a good outfielder for a guy who will hit 30 homers and drive in 100 runs."
Stallion skipper DeRoche "Lips" Leon said Tsoukalis will play fulltime at second base and Atkins will take over in right for Giles.
The 31-year-old Giles is hitting .273 with 19 home runs and 57 RBIs. The 27-year-old Tsoukalis was playing behind one of the best second basemen in the IPA, the .346-hitting Gil Foster. In 17 games, mainly at first base, Tsoukalis has batted .314 with 9 doubles, 1 homer, 15 RBIs and 3 stolen bases, while Atkins carries a .310 batting average with 14 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs and 28 RBIs. Atkins, age 26, has scored 44 times and stolen 7 bases.
