From the start of your post I thought you were going to suggest that leagues give teams of new owners an injection of cash like sometimes happens in real life. I've read that some leagues do do that so that's a new suggestion though. Personally, I prefer things that can be explained in a story like that. I don't know how you'd write into a story that a team was fined money and that gifted it back when a new owner came. Well, I suppose you could, but an injection of cash for new owners sounds more like something that would happen in real life.

The only thing that has bugged me about that old idea (and I guess it would go for yours as well) is that wouldn't it encourage people to quit and then return to the team under a different handle? I fear it might and so I'm not that big of a fan of it.
