Bob Thorpe the pitcher lived and died in San Diego,Ca which would fit with the PCL photo,the other Bob Thorpe(Benjamin Robert Thorpe) was born in Florida and died in Mississippi also,Bob Thorpe's only MLB season was 1955 whereas Benjamin Robert Thorpe was done in 53' so going on those clues it's a good bet that he's right.
