The Vipers are still in the running for one of the two playoff spots.
V's Sandoval Sizzles, Blanks A's 1-0
Volusia's Raul Sandoval got his third shutout of the season with 1-0 victory over the Glasco Athletics at the Jailhouse. It kept the Vigilantes in the wild card race for the last slot with Valmara and Sugar Valley. Sandoval (17-15 3.21) allowed just six hits, all singles, fanned seven and walked two for his 17th win of the season. Glasco's Jake Nyberg (2-4 3.86) was almost as tough, yielding only one run and six hits in seven innings. Nyberg had seven Ks and issued a pair of walks. The only run of the game came in the third inning. New shortstop Shane Wells (.250), playing in his first game, led off with a single and was batted around on a double by first baseman Alejandro Salazar (.284). A's left fielder Ox Beauvais (.337) had three of the six hits allowed by Sandoval.
The Vigilantes (74-70) are third in the RU North and are 6 games off the pace. They are contending for the final wild card with the Valmara Vipers (75-69) and Sugar Valley Rattlers (74-70). The Athletics (69-75) are fifth in the division and 16 games behind.
