Just a little update. I now have some experience with the whole roster set after doing a wholesale adjustment of fictional player ratings for fielding and baserunning related ability. The results are outstanding! That was clearly the missing piece in the puzzle for me. Historical players aren't blocked from advancement. Fictional players are there to bill holes in the rosters, for both MLB and AAA. Really excellent results.
