Ruthlandian Union South Division First Round Playoffs
Diamonds Whip Sunbirds 4-2 behind Kusnetsov
Just like Old Man River Terry Kuznetsov just keeps on rolling along... Kuznetsov (1-0 2.00) won 20 games in the regular season and today at his home field, Avalon Stadium, hurled the Claxton Diamonds to a 4-2 victory over the Belair Beach Sunbirds in the first game of their First Round playoffs... He chalked up nine Ks and walked only two in going the route... Slim Mosley (0-1 3.00) took a tough defeat, allowing only two earned runs in six innings of work for the Sunbirds... Both clubs collected eight hits each... Only one homer in the contest... Claxton 2B Erik Carducci hit a solo shot in the eighth inning... the underdog Diamonds will try to sweep the series with a win tomorrow afternoon in Belair Beach.
Valka, Peralta Top Cybercats 5-1, Up 1-0 in Series
It's playoff time!... but Valka's Roberto Peralta didn't feel the pressure... he mowed down the Grand City Cybercats 5-1, holding them to seven hits... Peralta (1-0 0.00) fanned three and walked three in a complete-game performance... He didn't allow an earned run in the game... The Blackhawks backed him up with a 10-hit attack with CF Ron Landauer, SS Villem Kask and RF T. C. Haskell all getting two hits apiece... Valka put up three runs in the opening frame and never were seriously threatened... Taking the loss was Lefty Paddison (0-1 6.35), who had a poor outing, giving up five runs in five-plus innings... The two clubs will play again tomorrow at Cybertel Stadium in Valka... One more win and the Blackhawks will advance to the Sweet Sixteen... It's a best-of-three series.
