Ruthlandian Union North Division First Round Playoffs

A's Crush Bulls 12-7, Advance to Sweet 16
Glasco hitters had to come out in force today as Ranford scored seven runs in the first two innings to take a 7-3 lead, but it wasn't enough... The Athletics unleashed 16 hits and scored almost at will to crush the Bulls 12-7 in the third and deciding game of the RU North playoffs... Glasco will now advance to the Sweet 16 against Far Mountain... A four-run third put the A's ahead for good as four relievers shut Ranford out over the last seven innings, holding them to three hits... 1B Maury Smith, 2B Barry McCord, CF Chet Reynolds and RF Ox Beauvais led the comeback... Smith went 3-for-5 with a homer, double, three RBIs and scored four times... McCord had four hits and three runs batted in... Reynolds has a pair of hits, scored three and batted in one... while Beauvais was 2-4 and drove in a pair... Glasco also received 10 walks in the game... Danny Stewart (1-0) collected the victory with a three-up, three-down third inning, while the loss went to Bull starter Leland Shaddock, who was bombed for 10 runs in four-plus innings... Jerry Smith worked two scoreless in for the A's... and Al Beauvais blanked Ranford in the sixth inning, then gave way to closer Jake Nyberg, who fanned four in three innings and allowed no runs and two hits for the save... RF fielder Junie Darton topped the Bulls with two hits and three RBIs... Game one with Far Mountain will be at the Redhawks home park, Sky High Stadium, and will get under way tomorrow afternoon... Games two and three will be played at Athletics Field in Glasco.
