IPA Pro Cup Series - Game Two
High Mesa Up 2-0 in IPA Finals, Beats Elnora 6-4
High Mesa's John Owens pitched a complete game and was backed by homers by Babe Holloman and Lex Neville in the 6-4 victory over Elnora... The Cowboys now have a commanding two-games-to-none lead in the IPA Pro Cup playoffs after defeating them at State Fair Park in Elnora... High Mesa took the lead 4-1 in the fifth when 1B Holloman (.226) pounded a three-run homer and CF Neville hit a solo salvo... they hit them back-to-back off losing pitcher Taylor Gibbs... Workhorse Owens only gave up two earned runs as the Cowboy defense made three errors... Owens (3-0 4.68) scattered 10 hits, walked none and had two Ks in winning his third game in the postseason... Gibbs (3-1 2.61) dropped his first game in the playoffs... High Mesa tagged him for four runs and six hits in four innings... The All-Stars narrowed the score to 4-3 in the seventh, but the Cowboys put two more on the scoreboard in the ninth to increase it to 6-3... Elnora tallied one run in the last of the ninth... 3B Richie Franklin (.267) paced the All-Stars at bat with two hits, one RBI and scored three times... CF Rusty Gilbert (.346) batted in two runs in defeat... Elnora had 10 hits, High Mesa racked up 8... The Cowboys will try to sweep the All-Stars tomorrow afternoon as the series will switch to Queen Ranch Stadium in High Mesa, where they rarely lose a game.
