Tycobbian Union North Division - First Round Series - Second Game

Oxford Pounds Frogs 10-5, Advances to Sweet 16
Playing on their home field at Winchester Stadium, the Oxford Red Caps pounded the Fairfax Frogs for 5 home runs in a 10-5 romp to sweep the first round TU North series and advance to the IPA Sweet 16. C Brad Earp set the pace with 2 home runs and batted in five runs. RF Dante Vander Meer, 3B Joe Courtney and SS Paul Lassak also went deep for the Red Caps. Bomber Belinsky picked up the victory, going seven-plus innings, allowing three runs on five hits with seven Ks and six bases on balls. Joey Addis came in and finished out the game when Belinsky's control deserted him and he walked two and hit a batter forcing in a run. SS Warren Lee led the Frogs with two hits and two RBIs. He hammered a two-run shot in the ninth. Fairfax starter Kaz Hayagawa sustained the loss, surrendering five runs in three-plus innings, but only two were earned. Oxford led in base hits 11 to 7.

The Red Caps will have the day off tomorrow and will meet the winner of the Luxora-Hartsdale series and will get underway Friday afternoon.

Hellcats Win 7-5, Series Deadlocked with Luxora
The Hartsdale Hellcats will live to fight another day! The Hellcats pounded out 12 hits in a 7-5 triumph over Luxora to deadlock the TU North First Round series at one game each. A third and final game is set for tomorrow at Pioneer Park in Hartsdale. It was seesaw battle that the Hellcats finally took charge of with a three-run sixth to go ahead 7-4. A bases-loaded double by 2B Hoppy Hill made it 6-4 with the final run scoring on a wild pitch. Hartsdale's top batters were 3B Whiz Weaver with 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. CF Mel Poe went 1-for-4 and SS Jud Turchin was 2-for-3. Poe and Turchin each scored twice. The Zorros were paced by 3B Rico Vina with a two-run homer and 1B Paul Hallenbeck with two base hits and two runs scored. 25-game winner Gus Kostro had a rocky outing as the Z's banged him around for five runs and ten hits in seven innings. Kostro got the win with the save going to Nico Carnera, who pitched two perfect innings and struck out two. Reliever Francisco Fernandes was the losing pitcher. He was raked for four runs in just two innings.
