2003 IPA Pro Cup Series

Tycobbian Union East Division - First Round Series - Third Game

6 HRs Power Red Sox, Eliminates Ozarka 7-5
Top-seeded Red Bluff buried Ozarka under a hail of six homers at the tiny bandbox Red Bluff Park to win the best-of-three series and the right to move on to the Sweet 16 in the IPA playoffs. But even with such a powerful display, the Red Sox managed only a 7-5 triumph as five of the roundtrippers were solo shots. The Naturals leaped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead, but Red Bluff blunted that with three in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the sixth for a 7-3 edge. The Red Sox totaled 13 hits to 12 for Ozarka with C Virgil Carpenter unloading two homers. SS Brooks Cole hit a two-run shot with LF Tony Blundell, CF Kris Grabowski and 3B Vern Gable cracking the other three. The Nats top bats were CF Kermit Wiggins and 2B Duane Starr, both had three hits in the game and scored twice. Starr also drove in two runs. Winning pitcher Mila Mihoski labored in his seven innings and was tagged for five runs and 10 hits, but closer John Daugherty saved it for him with two scoreless innings. 23-game winner Pat Schwartz did not fare well. He departed in the sixth trailing 6-3 and picked up the loss.

Red Bluff will now meet the Tuckanarra Blue Jays in the TU East finals. That series will start tomorrow in Tuckanarra with the Red Sox having home field advantage.
