Ruthlandian Union West Division Sweet 16 Series - Game Two
Roosters Rule the Roost, Sweep Lumberjacks
The Middlefield Roosters rule the roost in the RU West. The Roosters swept past Forest City 8-4 to capture the Sweet 16 Series in a two-game sweep. Middlefield blasted four homers led by 2B Alfredo Soriano (.421) with a three-run shot, a two-run rip by RF Bailey Norcross (.294) and two solo clouts by 3B Lowell Satterwhite (.429) and CF Ty DeWitt (.286). SS Bill Nilsen (.143) hammered a three-run roundtripper for the Lumberjacks. The Roosters collected 11 hits in all to 9 for Forest City. Satterwhite now has five home runs and nine RBIs in the playoffs. 40-year-old Jackie Lee Bevis (2-0 2.08) worked into the ninth for the win yielding four runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and three bases on balls. Closer Dave Webb retired the last two batters for the tired Bevis. Lumberjack starter Timmy Brooks (1-1 3,86) got stuck with the loss as he was rapped for four runs and five hits in two-plus frames.
Middlefield will now go up against St. John of the RU South in the best-of-three Elite 8 Series starting Monday at Middlefield Park. The Crusaders have the home field advantage in the series.
