St. John's Billings Voted Outstanding Manager in RU
No team in the Islandian Pro Alliance had a bigger turnaround than the St. John Crusaders. Under the leadership of manager Dickie Billings the Crusaders leaped from worst to first in just one season. For his great efforts Billings has been voted the overwhelming choice for the Manager of the Year in the Ruthlandian Union.
Billings outpolled Valmara's J. Jackson Samuel, Elnora's Zoggy White, Ranford's Page Satcher and Volusia's Alfonso Feliz for the award. Billings got 95 of the votes with Samuel a distant second with 10. Satcher, White and Feliz rounded out the poll with 7, 5 and 3 votes respectively.
Billings guided the Crusaders to a first place finish with an 89-65 record and won the division by four games over Belair Beach. The previous year St. John had finished dead last with a 68-86 mark, 17 games off the pace.
Billings told reporters at the Baseball Writers Association awards presentation, "It is an honor to be even mentioned along the side the names of the other managers in the league. We have some darn good managers in the Ruthlandian Union. To be rated the best this year is really something."
