Tycobbian Union East Division 2004 Final Standings
Red Bluff Survives Tough TU East Race, Tuckanarra Wins Playoff Spot
The Tycobbian Union East could be the toughest and the tightest division in the Islandian Pro Alliance. From top to bottom only 16 games separate the best from the worst. The Red Bluff Red Sox won it for the second consecutive season, besting second place Tuckanarra by 3.5 games and third place Midway by 4.5 games. High Mesa and East Point were close by, too. They were 6 and 7 games behind the champion Red Sox.
Tuckanarra and Midway had to go an extra game to decide the final playoff spot in the Tycobbian Union East. They finished the regular season all knotted up at 79-75 and had to play it off at Central Park Stadium in Tuckanarra. The Blue Jays got the home field advantage as they had taken two-of-the-three games between them in the regular season.
Tuckanarra was outhit 10 to 6, but took the win 7-3 to move into the IPA Sweet 16 playoffs. Tris Bristow (16-17 3.15) tossed a solid game, struck out four and walked only one for the victory. The Wolves took an early lead with a run in the opening frame, but the Blue Jays got the lead with a two-run fourth to make it 2-1. Midway evened it up in the fifth with a single run. Tuckanarra went ahead to stay in the bottom of the frame 3-2, then clinched it with a four-run outburst in the sixth inning. 2B Owen MacArthur (.277) sparked the Blue Jays to victory with a pair of hits and two RBIs. MacArthur also scored twice. Starter Pedro Shunkaha (13-10) suffered the loss, giving up all seven runs and six hits in five-plus innings. The victory gave Tuckanarra second place in the TU East standings and a playoff spot. The Blue Jays will now have to play the powerful Bayview Vikings of the TU West. The Vikings won its division with a 96-58 record. They won more games than any other team in the IPA this season. Tuckanarra will host the first two games of the best-of-five series beginning tomorrow.
