War In The IPA, Pro Cup Playoffs Begin Today
It's Sweet 16 Time in the Islandian Pro Alliance, the first round of the Pro Cup Series. Sixteen of the best teams in the Islands begin their quest today for the Holy Grail of the baseball world - The Pro Cup - the symbol of superiority in professional baseball in the Islands.

Who will join the Volusia Vigilantes, High Mesa Cowboys and the Turon Typhoons as the winner of the prestigious Pro Cup? The V's are the only one of the previous winners in this year's playoff battle.

In past seasons 32 teams qualified for the Pro Cup Series, but this has all been changed this year. Only 16 teams will participate. Only the top two teams in each of the eight divisions qualified for this year's playoffs. The owners and fans wanted longer series as too many of the best clubs got eliminated too quickly in short three-game series. The IPA has made each series the best-three-of-five in the first three rounds with the finals set at best-of-seven. Longer series will hopefully give the better team a better chance of winning.

The Islandian Times polled all of the sportswriters and broadcasters that cover the IPA and the consensus is the Elnora All-Stars and the Cape Coral Hurricanes will meet for the 2004 Pro Cup with the Hurricanes favored to win.
