There's an obvious solution: A lot more teams. If NYC had 4-5 teams, and Boston 2-3 then people who live there would have a lot of reasonably priced choices to see high level baseball.
People might say that real Yankee or Red Sox fans wouldn't switch teams. Well maybe. But their kids might if the choice was between spending 447 weeks of allowance to see the Yanks, or 5 weeks to see the Superbas.
Not much that's wrong with baseball couldn't be fixed with a healthy dose of competition.
