Carducci Wins Again, Named 2005 RU MVP
It's been an award-winning year for Johnny Carducci of the San Dimas Rancheros. Carducci just added the Ruthlandian Union Most Valuable Player Award to his laurels. Last week he was awarded the Golden Bat Award.
The 32-year-old San Dimas first baseman slammed 44 homers, batted in 145 runs and hit for a .305 batting percentage to lead the Rancheros to a second-place finish in the RU South, the team's highest finish ever.
Runner-up to Carducci was Taranto's fine left fielder Dominic Zuccaro, who hit .329, went deep 45 times and drove across 135 runs and sparked the Tars to second place in the RU North, the best the club has ever done.
Rounding out the select group was third baseman Charlie Gamble, who wound up third in the balloting. The 32-year-old Gamble in his first full season with the Middlefield Roosters crashed 51 homers, the second-best total in IPA history and just three off the league record. Gamble racked up 120 RBIs and hit for a .324 batting average. The Roosters rounded out the season in second place in the RU West.
