2006 RU and TU All-Stars Meet in Middlefield

Who's the best league? The Ruthlandian Union or the Tycobbian Union? The answer will be found in the Islandian Pro Alliance All-Star Game set for tomorrow at Middlefield Park in Middlefield. All the votes have been counted and tabulated, all of the players have been selected and they themselves will decide the question on the baseball diamond.

Leading the Ruthlandian Stars will be manager Smitty Michaels of the defending Pro Cup champions, the Middlefield Roosters. Guiding the Tycobbian stars will be Ford Whiteman of the Denham City Redbirds, who represented that league in the Pro Cup last year.

Belair Beach, Valmara and Cold Creek have three All-Stars each on the RU squad, while Colchester is tops in the TU with three All-Stars. 8 other teams had two represenatives each. Elnora, Middlefield and Taranto in the Ruthlandian Union and Turon, Hartsdale, Red Bluff, Oxford and Bayview in the Tycobbian Union.

Belair Beach pitcher Slim Mosley and 1B Phil Gravelli and Valmara RF Jet Kazmarek were named for the third time in their careers to the RU Stars, while Valmara C Erich Adamczyk, Middlefield 3B Charlie Gamble, Forest City SS J. T. Edmonds and Volusia CF Ryan Raines were selected for the second time.

The leader for the most All-Star appearances is Taranto's power-hitting LF Dominic Zuccaro, who made the RU All-Stars for the fifth time. Cape Coral's splendid right-hander Cody Burg and C Hank Bethel are close on his heels. They were named to the TU Stars for the fourth time. Pitcher Norm Gross of Bay St. Clair and 3B Joe Courtney of Oxford have been picked three times each. Summerland pitcher Paul Felkner, Turon pitcher Scotty Boswell, Oxford hurler Boomer Belinsky, Bayview 1B Chancey Quibedeaux, Denton City 3B Jay Petit and Red Bluff SS Jose Aguilar have been selected twice in their careers.

The Tycobbian stars hold a four-to-one edge in All-Star competition. There are four rookies on the All-Stars. 3B Robby Franklin of the Sligo Rovers was the only first-year player to make the Ruthlandian All-Stars. Tycobbia has three rookie players: closer Ricardo Topez of Luxora, RF Mark Buchanan of Hartsdale and RF Teddy Blanton of Colchester.
