TU Stars Trounce RU Stars 13-4
In the first five IPA All-Star Games the pitchers have pretty much had their way with the hitters, but not this time. The TU All-Stars trounced the RU All-Stars 13-4, led by La Claire's LF Zeppy Deshotel, who slammed a two-run double and a two-run homer to win the MVP Award. Hartsdale's rookie RF Mark Buchanan added three doubles and three RBIs and Colchester 3B Leland Curtis chipped in a three-run double in the lopsided triumph at Middlefield Park in Middlefield. The TU Stars piled up 14 hits in the runaway win.
In the top of the second they torched the RU Stars for seven runs and never looked back. The TU Stars tacked on four more in the sixth to really put the game out of sight 11-3. The TU Stars also sparkled on defense with three double plays. Forest City SS J. T. Edmonds paced the RU Stars with 3 of their 9 hits. Phil Reed of the Hartsdale Hellcats got credit for the win, though he allowed one run in his two innings. Starter Payton Saunders of the Cold Creek Catamounts was smacked for seven runs in his two innings for the loss.
Managers Smitty Michaels of the Middlefield Roosters and Ford Whiteman of the Denton City Redbirds did manage to get all of the players in the game. Whiteman was hampered as he only had six rested pitchers for the game. Three RU All-Stars had worked on Monday and could not pitch in the game.
The Tycobbian Union has won five of the six All-Star Games winning 6-0 in 2001, 2-0 in 2003, 4-3 in 2004 and 2-1 last year. Ruthlandia got its only victory in game two 5-4 in 2002.
