2006 IPA Pro Cup Series - Final 4
Ruthlandian Union
Claxton Starter Scott Will Miss the Playoffs
The Claxton Diamonds announced today that one of their starting pitchers Dennis Scott is out for the season. He injured his back in the fourth game of the RU Final 4 Series against the Volusia Vigilantes. He suffered the 7-2 loss that evened the series at two games each. Scott was 11-4 in the regular season with a 3.50 ERA. In the postseason he has posted a 2-2 mark with a 2.64 ERA and has been important to the Diamonds playoff success. Scott will be out about a month with a herniated disc.
Claxton manager Stacy Engel told BNN, "This is devasting news. Dennis has been outstanding in the playoffs. He is pitching better than he ever has in his career. He will be greatly missed." Engel said Doug Torvik (17-10 4.30), the #4 starter in the regular season, will take Scott's slot in the postseason. Torvik has been the Diamonds long reliever in the playoffs. He has worked 7 innings in 3 games and compiled a 0-0 record with a 4.91 ERA with one save.
The fifth and deciding game of the series will be played today in Claxton at Avalon Stadium. The winner will proceed to the IPA Pro Cup championship round against the Tycobbian champ, the Turon Typhoons, who disposed of the Bayview Vikings in four games in the Final 4 series.
