I did not have players retire according to history.
And OFG gave me the low down on the retirement dates (I think you have to look out for CEI's still) however, in my almanacs, for whatever reason, only stored the transactions the day after the playoffs end. This nets me one of the major retirement dates, but not Jan. 1st, minor league retirees, or CEI's. Plus I don't have almanacs from 1980 through 2008. They started to take a very long time to archive, and I was anxious to get to present day.
I suppose when going through the league year by year, the players who deserve induction will jump out enough where I will be okay and should get high accuracy. I wanted, though to be able to have hall of fame candidates every year, that reflected all players who retired 5 years prior, and having this stored as a list somewhere would've simplified this.
Pen, paper, and patience should do the trick if there is no short cut, which I'm gaining confidence there isn't.
