IPA Managers of the Year Announced

Ruthlandian Union

The 2007 Manager of the Year in the Ruthlandian Union belongs to Manny Mickens. He piloted the Ancona Red Elephants to a superb season as they took the North title for the first time in the club's history. Ancona rose up from sixth place to first place this year and led the RU with a 94-60 mark.

Willie Dickens of the Stoner Stars was the number two vote-getter. The Stars were deep in the division basement in 2006, but did an abrupt turnaround this season and won the RU West pennant. Stoner was 86-68 for the year.

Number three in the BNN Manager of the Year balloting was Torry Joseph of the Grand City Cybercats. The Cybercats fought their way from last place to second place in the RU South. Prior to this year Grand City had wallowed in the division second division for four straight seasons. The Cybercats were 85-69 in 2007.

Tycobbian Union

The Rolling Hills Reds have not done well the past two seasons, but this year they rebounded with Matty Christianson at the helm. For his efforts Christianson has been honored as the Tycobbian Union Manager of the Year. The Reds improved from the seventh spot in the TU West up to third place. Rolling Hills registered an 84-70 mark for 2007.

Harry Buckley received the second highest number of support. Fairfax was a vastly inproved ball club this season with an 83-71 record, good for third place in the RU North. Buckley brought them from seventh to third in 2007.

Mahaska's Rusty Lanussa finished third in the voting for Manager of the Year. The Haymakers leaped from sixth place to the top spot in the TU North with an 88-66 mark. It was Mahaska's finest season. For the last four years they had languished in depths of the second division.

Last year Stacy Engel of the Claxton Diamonds won the Ruthlandian Union Manager of the Year Award, while Gary Louis of the Arlon Champions garnered the Tycobbian honor. The award was not given the first two years of the IPA.
