2009 IPA Pro Cup Elite 8 Series

Colfax Fights Off Belle Plaine, Szabo Wins Game 7
Favored Colfax was really tested by a valiant bunch of Belle Plaine Musketeers, who almost knocked off the team many experts say will win the IPA Pro Cup this year... the testy Musketeers had a three games to one lead but just couldn't finished off a very good Colfax club... when crunch time came, the Blasters rose to the occasion and won the last three games of the series... in game seven it was their veteran ace Ilya Szabo, who rose to the occasion and came up with a clutch performance... Szabo (1-2 4.29) stopped Belle Plaine on seven hits and two runs, fanned six and walked three and went the route in a 6-2 victory... Szabo, who has won 20 games the last three seasons, had not looked good in two previous postseason outings and was beaten both times by the Musketeers... but not today when it was do or die... the Blasters had their hitting shoes on today and rifled 12 hits around Mountain View Stadium, led by RF Pat Coniglio (.333), who homered and doubled, scored twice and batted in two runs... and SS Phil Amundsen (.393) went 3-for-5, scored twice and batted in one... Colfax took a 4-0 after four frames and got rid of the Muskie starter Jorge Bonilla (1-1 5.40)... they ripped Bonilla for four runs and nine hits... two more runs in the seventh gave the Blasters a lot of breathing room... CF Harry Klyman (.323) led Belle Plaine at bat with a homer and a single... Colfax will now move on to the RU Final 4 against the Far Mountain Redhawks, who disposed of the Claxton Diamonds in six games... the series will open on Thursday in Far Mountain.
